Self-Defense and Anti-Bullying
Brazilian jiu jitsu for older kids teaches practical self-defense in a controlled and respectful setting. Students learn how to stay calm, use technique over strength, and respond with confidence. Our program also supports anti-bullying by teaching awareness, self-control, and the importance of avoiding conflict whenever possible. These lessons help children feel safer and more prepared in everyday life.
Self-Confidence and Social Skills
As children learn new techniques and progress through training, they build a stronger sense of achievement and belief in themselves. ARKA School of Jiu-Jitsu also gives kids a chance to connect with others in a structured setting, helping them build friendships, teamwork, and better communication skills on and off the mat. This makes training valuable for both personal growth and social development.
Physical and Mental Well-Being
Training keeps kids active while helping improve strength, flexibility, coordination, and overall fitness. It also teaches students how to focus, manage stress, and stay mentally engaged. Jiu jitsu for teens and school-age children offers a healthy outlet that supports both physical development and stronger concentration in daily life.
Discipline and Focus
One of the biggest benefits of kids jiu jitsu classes is the discipline students build over time. They learn to listen, follow instructions, stay respectful, and work through challenges with patience. These habits often carry over into school, home life, and other activities. At ARKA, the class structure is designed to help kids stay engaged while developing lasting focus and self-control.

How does jiu jitsu for teenagers help with bullying?
Jiu jitsu for teenagers helps by teaching self-control, awareness, confidence, and practical self-defense. It also reinforces conflict avoidance and respectful behavior. Jiu jitsu is a non-strike sport so it is by nature a more peaceful sport designed for self-defence primarily. It is based on the principle of using the opponent’s weight, movement, and momentum against them, allowing a smaller and possibly “weaker” person to defend against a larger, “stronger” person. If your child is suffering from bullying, we strongly recommend you try the sport to give them the necessary skills and confidence to defend themselves.
What are the benefits of jiu jitsu for teens and older kids?
Jiu jitsu can improve coordination, fitness, discipline, social skills, and resilience while giving students a healthy and structured activity. With the current epidemic of screen time addiction among kids these days, jiu jitsu offers a constructive activity that fills your child’s time, counters posture damage, and builds strength, community, and confidence.
What should my child wear to their first jiu jitsu class?
For your first class, wear comfortable workout clothes that are tight-fitting. No jeans, zippers, ties, or pockets, please, as those are a safety hazard. We will provide a rental gi for your free trial. Once you sign up, we will ask that you purchase the ARKA uniform so all students can be equal on the mat. Please see our complete list of merchandise here.
Can shy kids benefit from jiu jitsu classes?
Yes. Jiu jitsu is an excellent platform for shy or socially awkward kids to blossom gently and gain social skills. Jiu jitsu is a partnered sport, so having the opportunity to work with someone else will automatically set you up for friendships. It helps your child become more comfortable with physical contact in a safe environment and helps them overcome their fear of approaching others or being approached. We emphasize friendship and comradery, and we also end our classes with a game for added fun and release of energy.
