At ARKA, we ask that all our students wear the school gi and adhere to our NOGI uniform policy for the safety of everyone on the mat. Bottoms must not have zippers, string ties, buttons, pockets, or accessories.
Our uniform policy is intended to promote a sense of unity and belonging, and to make us all equals on the mat. We strongly believe that community and respect are the two driving forces in our success, and we strive to make everyone feel welcome and equally important, regardless of their background and rank.

nogi uNIFORM pOLICY
When joining our NOGI classes, we ask that you please adhere to the following uniform guidelines:
- NOGI TOPS:
- Must be an ARKA rash guard or ARKA t-shirt with sleeves (short or long). Out of respect for your partner’s hygiene, please refrain from wearing sleeveless shirts.
- Please choose a tight shirt that clings to your body, so your partner’s fingers are less likely to get caught in its fabric. Please note, fingers could break if caught and twisted in fabric.
- NOGI BOTTOMS: we ask that you purchase ARKA shorts as they are carefully designed to promote mobility and reduce injuries. We insist on this policy because bottoms that have buttons, string ties, pockets, zippers, or any accessories might cause injuries. Optionally, you may choose to wear long athletic tights under your shorts. Please choose black tights.
